Getting A Registered Trademark
This is a lot easier than you might think from a process standpoint, but much harder in terms of finding a mark you can own…and thus use exclusively. John Pickerill at Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. (612-492-7306) is a great resource for explaining the process to you; he has put together a great little roadmap as shown to the right.
More important than having a trademark, of course, is a URL you can own…typically in the .com designation. So start here. Get the web app Nomina and try, try, try to get the best one you can. And remember: most of the ones that are taken are available for sale, often for surprisingly small amounts of money. The four letters JLSI, which compose the jlsi.com website address, were bought for $900.00.
